Good people

Bad things happen to good people.  Young men die in war everyday. Spouses die.  Children lose parents. Sickness attacks. Righteous people suffer.  The other day I heard a radio announcer say “God doesn’t make bad things happen.” WHAT?? I’m not sure what Bible she has read but mine says “That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven:  for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.” Mat 5:45.  God controls all things. There is suffering throughout the pages of the Bible.  There were wars, lost loved ones, famines, pestilence and plagues. Just look at what it took for Pharaoh to let the Israelites go.  There is the story of Job; a man who at one point lost everything.  Today there is suffering.  My own family approaches the one year anniversary of my nephew’s death in Afghanistan.  A friend’s co-worker faces the suicide of her husband.  Yet I cling to the scripture that says “Without faith it is impossible to please him:  for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” Heb 11:6 and “Thou hast turned for me my mourning into dancing: thou hast put off my sackcloth, and girded me with gladness;” Psa 30:11. Bad things do happen to good people. The same God who created us has authored those things that occur in our life.  Sometimes they feel good and sometimes they don’t.  But in the end “Being confident of this very thing, that which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.” Php 1:6

Be faithful. Trust God.
